In my search for information on common core and how it will influence fine arts education I've been looking deeper into assessment.
I've developed a rubric that I've been fairly satisfied with so far and have been using for about 5 years. I use the rubric at the completion of a project with 3-5 graders and it includes a checklist of expectations, a self assessment table, and usually a few short answer questions. An example of one can be seen here.
During my research, reading, and general internet exploration I stumbled across this gem by Peter Pappas. Pappas published hisTaxonomy of Reflection in January 2010, on his website copy/paste.
What do you think?
I'm looking for some feedback from other art educators that could offer some insight into wording, things I'm missing, and thoughts on when and with what age s this appropriate to use with. I have little contact with other art educators in my new district and I'm finding I miss that sounding board terribly. So ... if you're out there in cyber, internet land and have a moment please leave a comment and let me know your thoughts and critiques.
I'm working to re-vamp my curriculum and maybe the way I teach this summer. I have big plans, and a whole summer to develop them. I love being excited for next year already ... I think that's when you know that you are in the right profession.
